Are You Prepared For Winter Weather???

There is still a lot of uncertainty in the different forecasts and models on the winter storm for the first part of next week. While none of the forecasts are confident on the type of precipitation or amount, they are all pretty much in agreement that we will experience some type of winter weather and that it has the potential to be a significant event.
We encourage you to make preparations now, in the event there is a significant impact to our area next week. Here are a few things you may want to make sure you have on hand, in case you are unable to get out or in the event of an extended power outage.

·        Water (1 gallon per person per day for at least 3 days)

·        Food (at least a 3 day supply of non-perishable food)

·        Medications (enough to last 3-5 days)

·        First aid kit

·        Batteries (for flashlights, portable radios etc.)

·        Weather Radio (battery operated or hand crank)

·        Flashlights or Lanterns

·        Cell phone with charger

·        Manual can opener for food

·        Learn how to shut off water valves (in case a pipe bursts)

·        If you have an alternative heating source (kerosene heater, wood stove, etc.), make sure the units are clean, serviced, and ready to be used should you need them. If you do use an alternative heating source such as a kerosene heater, be sure to have a working, battery operated, Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Detector and ensure your home is properly ventilated.  DO NOT use cooking equipment such as outdoor grills as a heating source inside your home.

These are just a few simple things you can do before the storm to be better prepared should this winter storm have a substantial affect on our area.

STAY SAFE!!!
